ABOUT US
Mission Statement: The S.O.S. Mission at St. Paul's Church exists to empower individuals and families to live spiritually healthy and productive lives through the practical application of the Word of God.
Vision Statement:
S.O.S. Mission will impact our communities by working to develop purposeful relationships with broken families seeking a way out of their current circumstances. Many families do not know how to escape the abuse, violence, addiction and/or break these generational cycles. S.O.S. will come along side the family with support, counseling, resource coordination and provide a sense of community that will encourage the family in their journey. S.O.S. Mission will accomplish its vision through the following means:
• Relationships founded on trust and based on Biblical principles.
• Christian community offering Biblical accountability.
• Pastoral Counseling designed to help the individual come to see themselves as Christ sees them.
• Faith development encouraged through discipleship classes designed to take the individual from new believer to a disciple eager to contribute to their faith community.
• Resource coordination with community and civic agencies and services that will assist our families in attaining their personal goals.
• Utilizing a parish nurse ministry, our families will be encouraged to come to view their health holistically; body, mind and spirit.
• Assist our families in navigating social services and courts, helping them to understand exactly what is required of them.
About S.O.S.
We are happy to have the opportunity to introduce you to The S.O.S. Mission at St. Paul’s Church. The Mission was born out of a desire to impact our community in ways that would see lives changed forever. St. Paul’s Church believes that Church is much more than Church members meeting in a building and this conviction gave birth to the mission. As a registered North Carolina non-profit Corporation we strive to use our gifts and resources to provide relief to families who are trapped in cycles of abuse and violence. Our particular focus is service to battered women and their children. We serve this population because we believe the biggest impact we can have is helping families leave generational cycles of violence and abuse.
S.O.S. Mission is a radical mission effort that takes into a holistic view of healing. The participant can expect an intense process involving biblical education, counseling, prayer and life skills training. We serve them as advocates in the courts, with social services and assist with other social needs as necessary. Through the services of a staffed Faith Community Nurse, the participant is counseled to take a holistic view of their health, encompassing mind, body and spirit. We are not a drug rehab service nor are we a mental health agency. We do guide those who have such needs to an appropriate agency however, we are unable to work with a prospective participant until they have been stabilized.
Once a prospective participant asks for our help we give them a loving community of faithful believers in which to grow. We use their history to counsel how the formula they have always used to make decisions has failed them. We at S.O.S. believe that all poor decisions are based on a formula that either minimizes the importance of Christ in the life of the individual or does not involve Him at all. Our goal is to begin bringing the participant to an understanding of God's call on their life with the expectation that they will seek to submit their will to Him.
S.O.S. does NOT discriminate or withhold programs from anyone on the basis of religious affiliation. S.O.S. does not require anyone to be a practicing Christian in order to begin participating in our programs. We do however require and expect that all families participate fully in all aspects of our programs and that all potential participants desire a Faith based solution to assist them in finding the healing they need. |
