Rev. A.J. Trent

Reverend A.J. Trent is the director of The S.O.S. Mission at St. Paul's Church. S.O.S. is a registered North Carolina non-profit corporation serving broken families in the Asheville and Western North Carolina region through discipleship in both faith and life. A.J. is responsible for the coordination and oversight of The Mission's day to day operations and the development of resources from the community that address social, educational, vocational and life skills needs of our families. Most importantly, in coordination with the St. Paul's Church pastoral team, A.J. is responsible for providing the spiritual care and faith discipleship that truly changes the lives of S.O.S. participant families.

A.J. made his public profession of his belief and dependence on Jesus Christ when he was 8 years old in 1981. He was baptized the following day in a frozen creek in Mallory, WV by his then pastor Rev. Clarence Fortner, with his family and the congregation of Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church in attendance. From that time A.J. has worn many hats including: infantryman in the US Army, truck driver, POC Firefighter and federal contract armed security officer. It was after working in his first job after leaving the Army in 1992, providing security for housing projects in the piedmont area of North Carolina, the Lord showed him how he could be used to by serving others. Years later God turned that experience into a ministry passion and A.J. was ordained a presbyter on December 31, 2005. A.J., his wife Laura, and their three children reside in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

A.J.'s prayer is that he can put to use all aspects of his background and experience so that he may emulate the apostle Paul who wrote "I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some". (1 Co 9:22 ESV) "While remaining steadfast and true to the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints". (Jude 1:3 ESV)

Ramona is our Faith Community Nurse. Among her roles at the S.O.S. Mission are  to screen participants for health needs, make appropriate referrals, teach clients about health related topics. She uses a holistic approach encompassing body, mind and spirit.  Ramona graduated from Southern WV Community College in 1982 with a degree in nursing. She worked as a critical care nurse, nurse manager, and hospital house supervisor. In the fall of 2008, she left her job to devote her time to helping develop the S.O.S. Mission program. This was a leap of faith. It was the first time in almost 30 years that she would be without a salary and completely reliant upon God. She feels that this is God's call upon her life into full-time service ministry.
