SERVICES
The path to restoration requires all involved, (including the victim of domestic violence, the victims family and friends, counselors, church family, healthcare providers and social support systems) to look at healing and restoration with a holistic view. S.O.S. has brought together a structured program that addresses all facets of the person; body, mind and spirit.
Spirit
S.O.S. identifies all toxic life circumstances to be directly tied to a flawed decision making process. We believe that one's personal ability to process decisions reflects one's spiritual condition. To address flawed decision making S.O.S. has assembled tools that help the participant come to understand God's purpose for humankind, His desire for reconciliation with humankind and the participant's place in the Kingdom of God. Once the participant comes to understand the role that God has for them, then decision making becomes Christ centered. There can only be a healthy and positive outcome when our decision making process is no longer focused on mere survival, but is instead centered on a proper understanding of our relationship with Jesus Christ.
To address the Spiritual aspect of healing S.O.S. has employed the following:
Overcomers Recovery Support Program – Established in 1985, the Overcomers Recovery Support Program is a “user friendly” method for churches, treatment centers and prisons to provide a spiritual plan of recovery for people struggling with life-controlling problems.
Steps to Freedom in Christ - The victory that Christ promises us is complete. He has promised that knowing the truth will set us free. Founded by Dr. Neil T. Anderson The Steps to Freedom in Christ is a comprehensive and powerful step by step process that will help you resolve your personal and spiritual conflicts and find freedom in Christ! Steps to Freedom in Christ is used by thousands around the world to discover their victory as children of God.
The Alpha Course - The Alpha course is a 15-session practical introduction to the Christian faith. It addresses foundational questions while providing participants with an opportunity to explore the meaning of life. The Alpha course is based on Alpha--Questions of Life by Nicky Gumbel.
Beta – The Beta Course helps the participant discover how to make God's Word the most influential force in a new Christian's daily life with Dr. Neil T. Anderson's practical course. Teaching sessions cover and discuss the truth of Scripture and how to intentionally apply the Bible to forgiveness, anxiety, worldview, relationships and more.
Discipleship Counseling - Dr. Neil T. Anderson's Discipleship Counseling model is employed by S.O.S. to help free participants from their emotional pain and spiritual conflicts, as we guide them to a more complete understanding of who they are in Christ. Through the Discipleship Counseling model the participant comes to understand how biblical counseling addresses the whole person-body, soul and spirit. The spiritually oppressed receive counseling that helps them resolve root issues through Christ. The participant learns to overcome false guidance, deception, bitterness and rebellion helping the participant come to experience real freedom in Christ.
Mind
AACC - S.O.S. Mission at St. Paul's Church is in the process of acquiring and developing an array of counseling tools and material from the American Association of Christian Counselors. It is our goal to have 75% of our staff certified in different fields of instruction from the AACC by December 2010.
Professional Counseling Services – S.O.S. understands that there are very real mental and emotional diagnoses that we are not qualified to treat. When circumstances require the intervention of a professional licensed counselor The Mission will refer the participant to suitable and qualified providers for assessment and counseling. It is a stated goal of The Mission to coordinate every resource available through both the Church and the community to meet the developmental needs of our participants. Our policy is not to duplicate any service that is already available. We but network with service providers to better use our own resources by taking advantage of established services of area agencies, ministries and civic/social services.
Body
The S.O.S. Mission at St. Paul's Church is blessed to have on staff a Registered Nurse whose mission is to help the participant view the health of themselves and their family holistically. This view takes into account all three areas of health and includes the body, mind and spirit. When one of these areas is sick the other two are surely affected. The Faith Community Nurse works closely with all of our participant families offering assessing and referrals to address any health issue that arise. The Faith Community Nurse also offers our participants instruction through classes that address issues such as nutrition, heart health, exercise, weight loss, diabetes and many other health issues. |
